American Revolution stories

My favorite American Revolution story is the one where George Washingtons sails across the river at night to surprise our drunk enemies.
I'd like to see a President do that now without an advisor giving him the pro's and con's and a secret service member accompanying him.

It was before he was president, though. He was a general.

i like the one about how Paul Revere road through all of New England shouting the British are coming. the reason i like it is because it is almost entirely false.

there wasn't even an America yet. they were still fighting for it.
and people forget that it took a decade before there was any kind of formal agreement for all the colonies to be one country.

Benedict Arnold was one rad guy. He understood the pointlessness of war and sought to unselfishly end the war early, thereby saving the lives of several men on both sides.

and then we called him a treasonous bastard. that taught everyone the lesson that you should always support war, even when it is pointless, or else we'll kill you.
that's the lesson i learned anyways

Hmmm. I think you are right, Tommo...
"Chicken catch-a-TORY" (get it, a "Tory"? The American people who supported the British in the revolution?
"Eggs Benedict" (Get it? Eggs Benedict-ARNOLD)

My favorite American Revolution story took place in New York City when Washington was out-manned and out-gunned and the entire island was surrounded by the British navy. It looked grim, and then a dense fog blew in...and stalled. It prevented the British invasion and Washington was able to sail and row his entire army over to the other side of the East River and to escape. Once the last man of his army was on the other side of the river, the fog lifted and the British were handed a "defeat" when they invaded to find no Continental army to crush.
Had the fog NOT descended, we would be having tea and crumpets at 4:00PM every fucking day and saying things like "Cheerio" and spelling words like color "Colour".
Fucking limey bastards.
